A climbing trip on Mt Ruapehu turned fatal for Paul (34) a member of the Wellington section of the New Zealand Alpine Club. He was with a group of six other climbers when he lost his footing and fell down a steep 300 metre slope and died. The group was training in an area called the Pinnacles, which is very steep technical climbing, and extreme skiing and snowboarding terrain.
