James (48) from Tasmania fell about 100 metres while tramping in Fiordland. He was on holiday with his wife and children when he had begun his lone three-day tramp over the Gertrude Saddle. It appears he had fatally fallen on his first day at Barrier Knob, only 3km from his start point, the Homer Hutt. He was reported overdue by his wife and was found by a search and rescue helicopter crew in the Lake Adelaide area later that day.
