Police detective turned PI, Bryan (70), handled more than 50 homicides during his 33 year career in the police force. Based in Auckland, he became the head of the CIB in 1988 and in 1996 he retired as a police superintendent. A notable murder he worked on was that of Margaret Bell, innocently killend in a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub in Queen St, Auckland, in 1979. Latterly, his work as a private iinvestigator he helped prove the innocence of David Dougherty, who was wrongfully imprisoned for rape. He is survived by his wife, three children and eight grandchildren.
