Sir Rodney Gallen (78) was knighted in 2000 for his services as a High Court judge. He was considered a compassionate humantarian who had a vast understanding of Maoridom and was commited to the successful rehabilitation of Maori prisoners. He was raised on the East Coast of New Zealand and will also be remembered for his work with the Nagi Tuhoe tribe which helped them retain Maori ownership of Lake Waikaremoana.
