Taylor's truck was struck by a three-metre length of timber which deflected off his wing mirror to fatally hit him in the head while he was driving. The incident is considered a freak accident and the piece of timber may have come dislodged from a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. The female passenger in the truck grabbed the steering wheel and managed to stop the truck 100 metres down the road.
