All Black great Grahame Thorne lost his eldest son, Bruce (38) in a car crash on Christmas Eve in South Africa. Bruce was a former Super 12 player and died at Kroonstad, about 200km south of Johannesburg, after his car spun off the road and rolled. He is survived by his wife and young son. who were also in the vehicle at the time.
