Sir John (82) was a former All Blacks captain and educationalist. He was the principal of Auckland Grammar School for 20 years (1973-93) and acted as commissioner of the Nga Tapuwae College. Included in many of his putstanding achievements include being voted New Zealander of the Year by North and South magazine and acting as Chancellor of the University of Auckland. His All Blacks career from 1958-64 saw him play as a loose forward in 53-matchs and 22-tests.
