Sixty year old Margaret starved herself for 16 days before dying of a brain haemorrage. She was disabled and terminally ill and had refused to eat and drink. Staff at her nursing home supported her decision as her right, while her husband was critical of staff for not keeing her alive. This again sparked the euthansia debate in New Zealand about the rights of the elderly and sick.
