Dion (43) will be remembered as a champion New Zealand horseman and well-liked rodeo identity. In his rodeo career from 1985 to 2004 he won15 all-round titles and was also a regular bareback, steer-wrestling and bull-riding champion. Horsemanship is in the blood with Dion's father and three brothers also champions in the sport. He died of a suspected heart attack while working in a shed in Palmerston. He is survived by his wife and four children.
