Flight 447 carrying 228 people from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, disappeared minutes after flying into an extremely dangerous band of storms on 31 May 2009. Although several bodies and wreckage has been found, it remains unknown what brought the Air France Airbus A330 down. Relatives and friends are grief-stricken for those who were lost, which included holiday-makers, business people, and an 11-year-old boy travelling alone back to England.
Brazil has held three days of national mourning.
