Talented Air Force pilot Nicholas (32) died when his CT4 Airtrainer crashed near Ohakea. He was a Squadron Leader and Flight Commander at the Central Training School, and was one of only five members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force's Red Checkers aerobatic team. It was during an aerobatics practising run that he crashed his plane.
