Bunty (97) was the last survivng commissioned officer of the Maori Battalion. He had served in D Company as a volunteerbefore being promoted from private to corporal and then to sergeant. Whilst in the field he was promoted to lieutenant and was an officer at only 24 years old..
A biography was wriiten on him, Soldier of the 28 (Maori) Battalion. and was published in 2012 when he was in his 93rd year. Over his full life he achieved many great thngs and leaves a long legacy behind.
