Sir Richard (75) was the third generation head of the family sawmilling and forestry dynasty, Carter Holt Harvey. In 1984 he was responsible for creating Carter Holt Harvey as New Zealand's fourth largest public company and in 2002 was inducted into the Fairfax New Zealand Business Hall of Fame.
