The 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck off the cost of Haiti claimed the lives of tens of thousands and has bought the nation into crisis. The quake struck about 10 miles (15km) south-west of the capital and was followed by two strong aftershocks measuring 5.9 and 5.5 respectively. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and international aid is desperately needed to cope with the deadly impact.
