Len (86) was an internationally recognised potter. He first exhibited his work in 1949 but it wasn't until 1963, when he left his science lecturers job, that he turned to potting professionally. In 1986 he was awarded a CBE for services to pottery and in 2003 was awarded an Arts Foundation of New Zealand Icon Award. In 2004 he was also recognised with both the University of Auckland Distinguished Alumni Award and also a Distinguished Companion of New Zealand Order of Merit.
