Rangi (15) died after a car ran over him at 4am in the morning following a party. He had been lying on State Highway 1, about a kilometer from Tokoroa, at the time of the tragedy and it was unclear why he was there.
He was a popular pupil at Tokoroa High School and was a promising rugby player, playing wing in the school's first XV, and also excelled at debating.
His funeral is at the high school's marae, Te Marae O Te Whanau Noa, on Wednesday 21st September.
