Boxing Day tragedy for the family Jack (12) when he was struck by a boat on Blue Lake at St Bathans in Central Otago. Jack was being towed on a biscuit behind the boat when he was struck by another. Jack died at the scene. He was a keen rugby player and had made the 2015 Metro Rugby Under 48kg Gold Squad team and is remembered as being an "awesome kid".
Blue Lake is a man-made lake that is used by anglers, swimmers and boating enthusiasts.
