Emily (9) had been spending school holidays with extended family when she was fatally swept into the water at the Hokitika River mouth. She was a precious only child and the loss unimagineable for her parents. She had been with an older family relative at the treacherous spot when both fell into the water.The relative was pulled out by a member of the public but Emily was swept away. Her body was recovered two days later near the mouth of the Grey River, near Cobden, over 40 km away. RIP wee Emily.
