Peter (37) died only metres from where his mother was killed 13 years earlier. Both Peter and his mother, June Brighouse (51), died as a result of car crashes north of Dannevirke. Peter lost control of his SUV, leaving the road and crashing into a tree. In 1997 Mrs Brighouse's car slid on loose gravel and her vehicle spun 180 degrees and hit a tree on the opposite side of the road. Peter was involved with the Dannevirke Sports Club was regarded as "a good guy who was easy to get on with".
