Ruby (5) tragically lost her life following a head on car crash near the Moeraki boulders in North Otago. She attended Ardgowan School, Oamaru and was in the vehicle with her mother (40), father (41), and two sisters, aged 9 and 7 when their car was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by a tourist from Beijing, China, which had four occupants. All involved sustained injuries. Vehicle accidents involving tourists in rental vehicles has spiked in the South Island, Over 30,000 people have signed a petition launched launched by Geraldine ten-year-old Sean Roberts which calls for more vigilant screening of foreign drivers. Sean's father died in a car accident caused by a foreign driver.
