A dive trip with friends to Tutukaka turned to tragedy with Bruce (56) was mutilated by a boat propeller. The group, members of the Western Underwater Dive Club, had chartered a boat for their dive trip but at the entrance of the poor Knights Islands Bruce was struck by the propeller and sustained fatal facial injuries dying soon after he was dragged onboard. Bruce was a civil engineer from Nottingham, England and came to New Zealand with his wife to settle on Auckland's North Shore. He had been a member of the Western Underwater Dive Club for five years.
